. Description:
Recently, much has been said about the territories affected by the latest storms that devastated Portugal. Many people lost their homes. They watched the wind tear their roofs away, the rain enter their homes, and the waters take over their land. Isolation fell upon many. The lights went out. Water arrived in excess — but outside the taps.
While creating this sculptural object, I focused on the compassion I felt for those forced to abandon their nests, reclaimed by the force of water. I wanted to build a ruin — already fractured — in an attempt to prevent its total collapse. The water is no longer inside, only its trace remains.
How long will it take before they can have their home back? To recognise the landscape again. To feel, once more, the comfort and shelter a roof can provide.
